Dr. Merry examines your pet in your home wherever they are most comfortable. This often means sitting down on the floor with larger dogs or joining them on a couch, holding cats on a lap, or allowing your pet to stay in their favorite bed. This alleviates the stress of being hoisted onto a table and often times your pet does not realize a medical examination is going on. This relaxed and comfortable approach is especially good for our geriatric patients with decreased mobility and for nervous pets that are too tense for a thorough exam in a clinic. If you have a pet that likes to hide when houseguests arrive, sequestering them in the bathroom shortly before our arrival will be less stressful than chasing them for their examination. For pets that are especially fearful, we may initially conduct a behavior consultation and schedule the physical exam with anti-anxiety medication on board.
