We recognize that this is an emotional and difficult appointment to make and Dr. Merry will do everything possible to make your pet’s last moments full of love and peace. Allowing a pet’s final moments to be spent in their family home, surrounded by the comforts and smells they have known all their life and the people who love them, is a final gift we can give.
Before the appointment, you can offer treats to your pet (just not too much or they may get a stomach ache), if your pet is mobile, a short walk and a potty break for dogs, or a freshly cleaned litter box for cats can also help make sure your pet is more comfortable when we arrive.
Other pets are welcome to be present during or after the euthanasia, as it seems there is much more closure when they are able to see and smell the body of their friend.
To prepare for Dr. Merry’s arrival, please have a parking space available that is near the door, and if possible a plan to minimize the amount of stairs traveled. A shorter travel distance helps make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible.
The entire procedure will be explained once Dr. Merry arrives, according to your interest level and comfort. Everything will be done at the pace you and your pet dictate. A sedation injection is given to ensure your pet is comfortable. This provides a gentle transition from consciousness to a state of deep sleep. Once you and your pet are ready, the final euthanasia medication is given, usually in a vein. It works very rapidly, only seconds in most cases. Dr. Merry will then confirm that your pet has passed on.
A paw print is made along with a commemorative box with your pet’s fur and will be left with you at the end of the appointment. If we are handling transportation for cremation, Dr. Merry will have either a small basket or a stretcher to transport your pet to the car. If your pet is 50lbs or over, please have someone able to assist with transporting your pet to the car, if there will not be someone available to assist during that time, please let Dr. Merry know and she will bring an assistant with her for the appointment.

All euthanasia appointments include a base visit fee of $78, a travel fee of $48 (core service area) or $64 (extended service area) and a euthanasia fee that depends on your pet’s weight:
