Your Appointment

When you have an appointment with Traveling Tails, we arrive within 30 minutes of the scheduled time. A house call includes a comprehensive and personalized 1 hour veterinary visit. We strive for you and your pet(s) to always have a positive veterinary house call experience!

Please feel free to contact us with any special needs, concerns or questions you may have about your pet or appointment procedures.

Before We Arrive:

  • Please make sure your pet is accessible to help minimize stress during the exam.
  • For shy cats, confine them to a small room before we arrive and close off areas with many hiding spots, like bedrooms or basements. Cats feel more secure in smaller spaces and are easier to examine without being pulled from hiding spots.
  • For dogs that are reserved with strangers, keep a leash handy and close the doggy door if you have one.

When We Arrive:

Dr. Merry examines your pet wherever they feel most comfortable at home, reducing the stress of being placed on an exam table.

  • This may mean sitting on the floor with larger dogs, joining them on the couch, holding cats on a lap, or letting your pet stay in their favorite bed. This gentle approach is especially helpful for senior pets with mobility issues and nervous pets that are too tense for a thorough clinic exam.
  • If your pet tends to hide from guests, placing them in a bathroom before our arrival is less stressful than chasing them for an exam.
  • For fearful pets, we may recommend a behavior consult and schedule the exam with anti-anxiety medication support.

At the End of Your Visit:

After your pet’s exam and treatments,

  • Dr. Merry answers any remaining questions and helps create a healthcare plan tailored to your pet.
  • Medications are filled, dispensed, or called into your preferred pharmacy.
  • Payment is due at the time of service, and we accept checks, major credit cards, and Venmo. You’ll receive an emailed invoice and consultation notes after the visit.
  • Then it’s time for treats, affection, and relaxing in their home.
