Before We Arrive:

Before We Arrive:

Please make sure your pet is accessible. This is key to minimizing your pet’s stress during their exam.

For a shy cat, this may involve confining them to a small room prior to our arrival. Remember to close off any rooms that contain a lot of hiding places (like bedrooms and basements). Cats feel much more secure when we see them in a small space and don’t have to pull them out from under the bed or a hiding spot first.

If you have a dog that is a little more reserved with strangers, you may want to have a leash handy and be sure to close the doggy door, if you have one.

When We Arrive:

Dr. Merry examines your pet in your home wherever they are most comfortable, alleviating the stress of being hoisted onto a table. This often means sitting down on the floor with larger dogs or joining them on a couch, holding cats on a lap, or allowing your pet to stay in their favorite bed.

This relaxed and comfortable approach is especially good for geriatric patients with decreased mobility and nervous pets that are too tense for a thorough exam in a clinic.

If you have a pet that likes to hide when houseguests arrive, sequestering them in the bathroom shortly before our arrival will be less stressful than chasing them for their examination.

For fearful pets, we may conduct a behavior consult and schedule the physical exam with the benefit of anti-anxiety medication.

After your pet’s examination and medical treatments, Dr. Merry answers any remaining questions and works with you to create a healthcare plan for your pet. Any medications are filled and dispensed or called into a pharmacy of your choice.

Payment is due at time of service. We accept checks, major credit cards, and Venmo. A copy of your invoice is emailed to you along with our veterinary consultation notes.

Some nice treats and affection are dolled out and hopefully your pet can go back to relaxing in the comfort of their own home.

Your appointment

A house call with Traveling Tails includes a comprehensive and personalized 1 hour veterinary visit. In a busy clinic setting, you spend 15 minutes with a veterinarian. This is barely time for a physical exam and routine vaccinations. Our extra time together allows for a complete history including changes or concerns with appetite, behavior, mobility, nutrition and more.
